The Mosque is the Second Home of Muslims

The mosque is a place of worship for Muslims. The word mosque is taken from Arabic which means "place of prostration". Meanwhile, musholla means "place of prayer". The difference between the two lies in the size because the so-called prayer rooms are usually small and cannot accommodate large numbers of worshipers.

At the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet's Mosque became the center of Islamic government. There is a place for prayer, celebrating holidays, religious studies, learning the Koran, social activities, the military, and temporary shelter for people who can't afford it. 

The three holy mosques for Muslims are the Grand Mosque (Mecca), the Prophet's Mosque (Medina), and the Aqsa Mosque (Jerusalem).

Masjidil Haram

This mosque surrounds the Kaaba which is the mecca or direction of prayer for Muslims around the world. The Kaaba itself was built by Prophet Adam as followed by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail as. The construction of the mosque has also begun.

The very old age of the Grand Mosque is never seen physically because it is always renovated so that it is more beautiful than before. Not only that, the Grand Mosque was expanded when Caliph Umar came to power in 638 AD. Caliph Uthman bin Affan also expanded it again in 647 AD.

 The Prophet's Mosque 

This mosque is the second mosque built by the Prophet Muhammad. On the way to migrate from Mecca to Medina, the Prophet and the Emigrants had time to build the Quba Mosque in the former place for drying dates belonging to the orphaned Sahl and Suhail bin Amr. 

The place was bought by the Prophet Muhammad. The mosque was built simply of bricks and earth while the roof is made of date palm leaves.  

Masjid Al Aqsa

Masjid Al Aqsa is a mosque that was visited by the Prophet Muhammad. on the night of Isra' Mi'raj. In Arabic, Masjid Al Aqsa means "furthest mosque". It is located in East Jerusalem. 

Actually, the location of this mosque was also sanctified by the Jews and Christians because at that location there was Solomon's Porch which was sanctified by the Jews and a church that was consecrated by Christians. The Aqsa Mosque was damaged several times by earthquakes and then rebuilt by the ruling Islamic government.

The etiquette of entering the mosque 

Here are some things to note when entering the mosque:

  • Come clean and clean.
  • Enter the mosque with the right foot.
  • Immediately perform the Tahiyatul Masjid prayer of 2 rakaat.
  • Talk less. Better to do dhikr or read the Quran.
  • Maintain the sanctity of the mosque from najis and various other impurities.
  • Maintain peace in the mosque.
