15 Preparation for Marriage in Islam

Marriage is the desire of almost everyone who has entered adulthood who is still single, especially if they already have a life partner. As a Muslim, of course, we already know how the law of dating according to Islam. Islam does not know the term dating. 

Therefore, the way to avoid adultery for adolescents and young people is to apply the teachings of marriage in Islam when they are old enough and get a good mate.

No matter how we meet our prospective life partners, when planning to get married we still have to follow the procedures according to our religion, namely Islam. Why is that? Because getting married is a part of worship that we do in Islamic teachings. A Muslim who is going to get married must know the procedures for marriage under Islamic law.

Preparation for Marriage in Islam

Possibly, because they are too late in the preparation for the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom forget the importance of preparing mentally and spiritually according to religious teachings. Mental preparation is also very necessary, even that should be the most important thing. Here are some things in preparation for marriage under Islamic law:

1. Intention to

marry must be with a sincere intention. Whether it's marrying without dating, which is usually called going through the "Ta'aruf" process, or getting married after dating a partner, everything must be based on a sincere intention to worship and live a future with a legal spouse.

2. Understand the ins and outs of Islamic marriage.

Finding information about marriage under religious teachings is highly recommended so that when the time comes we will already have provisions that can be used to enter the world of marriage. We will know what the shekinah mawaddah and warrahmah family looks like and how we can achieve it.

3. Ijab Kabul and dowry

If you already have a description of how to marry under Islamic law, of course, we will also have an idea of ​​the process of consent granted and what the meaning of consent is in the process of marriage in Islam.

Getting used to practicing what is sunnah is very useful when you get married. We will be able to give an example of doing good worship to our spouse and also the children who will be born in the future. 

The religious education in the family that we apply will make our family grow in nuances that are full of religious values.

6. Physical preparation

The medical examination is one of the recommended wedding preparation checklists for the bride and groom. This physical examination is useful as a way to keep the body fit before the wedding.

7. Preparing materials

Men need to prepare materials or a solid financial plan to provide for their families well. Materially neglecting his wife would be one of the disobedient traits of a husband to his wife.

8. Avoid sins in preparing for marriage.

To prepare a wedding that is under religious teachings, we cannot follow the general procedures that apply in society or that are becoming the latest trends, such as taking intimate pre-wedding photos. 

Intimate photos will lead to sin because in Islamic teachings it is not allowed between a man and a woman to be close together, let alone physically touch before becoming a Muslim. Physical touch is also a dating hazard. Taking pictures can be done, but by following Islamic rules that avoid physical touch.

9. Adjust the reception with Islamic rules.

If you want to use certain customs, try to minimize the traditional processions that are contrary to Islamic teachings. This will require communication with all parties involved, as well as discussing the possibility of separating male and female guests so as not to get mixed up.

10. Prepare the management of important documents to the "KUA."

The next most important thing in preparing for a wedding is to arrange the requirements for a marriage certificate to the nearest KUA. A marriage certificate is a very important part because, with this certificate, a marriage will be declared valid, recognized by religion and the state.

11. Prepare clothes under Islamic law.

Organizing a wedding under religious teachings is of course inseparable from the choice of clothing. Women in Islam are very much protected. The dress of the bride should be made to cover her figure and not like most styles today. Even though wearing a veil, the current style still reveals the shape of the body of the bride, which is forbidden in Islam.

12. Prepare halal food.

Not only must food ingredients be halal, but also the manufacturing process. This means that we have to choose a caterer who is used to providing and processing their food in a halal way. For that, we also have to know how to prepare halal food and what ingredients are considered haram. 

This knowledge will also be useful if we are married later. Tips for being a good wife and loved by your husband are smart in preparing halal food for the family.

13. Not expecting gifts

Giving gifts to brides is voluntary, but it has been a long tradition. Many people insist on giving gifts when they are unable to because they feel attached to the tradition. This is contrary to religious teachings because there is an element of causing trouble to others. If we are sincere, emphasize the invitation not to be obliged to give gifts.

14. Get pre-marital counseling

One of the conditions for marriage from the Office of Religious Affairs is to undergo a pre-marital counseling session. In that session, we will get a lot of knowledge about Islamic married life, such as how to serve a husband, why a wife is disobedient to her husband, how a husband treats his wife well, and many other religious sciences in the household.

15. Make sure the marriage is approved by the family

In Islamic teachings, the blessing of parents is important to start a marriage. Therefore, make sure that this marriage has the blessing of their parents and that their children are willing and sincere to live life with other people, namely their life partners.

Many verses of the Qur'an and hadith state the roles of husband and wife in marriage and their obligations. Not only the wife should serve her husband, but the husband also has certain obligations towards his wife. If both parties understand this, surely it will not be difficult to create an atmosphere of marriage that is full of Islamic teachings.
