The last days like now, which are full of temptations and trials, make a believer tested his patience. There are those who can pass and face a test or trial with great patience. But not a few also fail in the face of various trials of life. Trials and temptations come and go, so it is necessary to cultivate patience deeply into the soul continuously.

Understanding Patience

Patience in language comes from the Arabic vocabulary, namely shabr which means to restrain oneself, to control oneself. And, in general the understanding of patience is an attitude of restraining or controlling oneself towards an event without being controlled by lust.

Patience is a commendable character and is a reflection of one's faith. Especially, in carrying out Islamic religious orders. Patience is also a shield or helper of a believer because not everyone is able to be patient with a certain trial or test.

As emphasized in the Qur'an, surah al-Baqarah verse 153, which means: "O you who believe! Seek help (to Allah) with patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”

From this verse, it can be learned that Allah will help His servants who are patient and pray, servants who carry out Allah's commands. And, patience is one of the commands of Allah, the Most Patient.

In a case or incident, often many people misunderstand, that patience is just enough to be silent. Refrain from reacting emotionally. But it was done with compulsion. It is physically not reacting emotionally, but inside, inside, he is still holding back emotion or impatience.

Of course, this kind of attitude cannot be categorized as an attitude of patience, and it cannot get virtue or wisdom from the fruit of patience.

The Wisdom of Patience

Patience is a trait that must be cultivated continuously and must undergo various tests and trials. The goal, so that the nature of patience gain virtue. Because, patience itself requires a sincere attitude or pleasure to Allah's provisions.

With a sincere and contented attitude, patience will bring a lot of great wisdom. These wisdoms can be felt in real life in this world, some will be felt in the hereafter.

Some of the wisdom of patience in Islam can be grouped into several parts. The following is the wisdom of patience within the framework of our interaction as fellow human beings (hablum minannaas).

1. The Wisdom of Patience for the Person

In interacting with others, we are faced with many different characters of people. Among them, of course, there are those who have a hard, temperamental, short-tempered character, and others.

In associating with people who have such character, Islamic teachings command to be patient. Because with that patience, we can avoid any quarrels, fights, and other evils that can occur.

Many incidents of riots, student brawls, wars between citizens were triggered by trivial problems. For example, because they don't accept it, they can't be patient, when their friends are teased or something else.

With the patient nature that is owned, then our friends or the people around us will be happy. Finally, we can mingle widely without having to be afraid of being hostile to others.

2. The Wisdom of Patience in the Family

A harmonious family or sakinah family is of course the dream of every married couple. A sakinah family must also be built with patience. Without patience, it seems impossible for a sakinah family to be realized.

In our society, there are many broken families, because both husband and wife are not able to be patient. For example, not being able to be patient with their economic life or not being able to be patient with the physical condition of their partner.

There was even a case that, because of not being patient with the economic condition of his family, the mother had the heart to kill her children with poison, then the mother herself committed suicide.

A family filled with patience, will create a sense of affection among family members. And, with this love, the sakinah family will be able to wake up properly. That is one of the virtues of patience.

3. The Wisdom of Patience for Society

In this day and age, there are many challenges, trials and tribulations. This requires a Muslim to always be patient. Being patient here does not mean just being silent about the reality in society. But patience is moving. Move in order to enjoin good and bad.

As Allah commands in the Qur'an surah al-'Asr verses 1-3: “By the time. "Truly, humans are at a loss. Except those who believe and do good deeds and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to patience.”

From this verse, it can be understood that a community will suffer damage, if the community does not advise each other to enforce the rules in society.

From this information, one of the wisdoms of patience that has great benefits is being able to create a peaceful life in the midst of society.

In the face of trials or tests from Allah, we are commanded to be patient and contented. With the provision of pleasure, then we can expect help from Allah.

By being patient, we will also get a reward from Allah. And, Allah's test to His servants, will definitely bring good if it can be accepted with patience.

Patience in the face of trials, can also show the level of one's faith. With his faith, Allah will send his help to help solve the calamity or trial that is being faced.

This is in accordance with the promise of Allah contained in the Qur'an: "O you who believe! Ask Allah for help with patience and prayer. Indeed Allah is with those who are patient” (Al-Baqarah verse 153).

2. Wisdom of Patience in Fearing Allah

Fear of Allah is carrying out orders and staying away from all prohibitions of Allah. Obedience to God's commands must also be done with patience. Likewise, in obedience to stay away from Allah's prohibition, it must also be patient.

To illustrate this, as stated by Allah in Surah as-Sad verse 44: "We found him (Ayyub) a patient person. He is the best servant. Indeed, he is very obedient (to Allah)".

From this verse, it can be learned that patience is a character of the prophets. The prophets are the servants of the great God, the masters of heaven. So, the nature of patience, including the nature of the experts of heaven.

The virtue or wisdom of patience in Islam is great because patience is the nature of the experts of heaven. And, according to His promise, Allah will always be with those who are patient.
