Various Zakat

1. Zakat Property or Zakat Maal

In Islam, there are two types of zakat that must be paid, namely zakat mal and zakat fitr. Zakat property or zakat mal is zakat that must be issued from agricultural, mining, sailing, business, livestock to gold and silver owned. These properties must be removed after reaching a certain nisab (amount) and haul (within one year of ownership).

Each type of property has different nisab. For livestock such as cows, horses, and buffalo nisab is 30 tails. This means that everyone who has three types (or one) of these animals as many as 30 or more, has been charged zakat. For sheep, the nisab is 30 while the camel is 5.

For those of you who have gold savings, if you have reached 20 dinars (equivalent to 85 grams of pure gold) and 200 dirhams of silver (equivalent to 672 grams of silver), in a year are obliged to pay zakat of 2.5% of the total property owned. All types of property that can be converted into gold and silver such as stocks, checks, securities, and so on are also subject to zakat obligation if the amount has exceeded the nisab.

2. Zakat Fitrah

In addition to property zakat, we are also obliged to issue zakat fitr. Based on the meaning of zakat fitr is zakat that must be issued by every Muslim individual. In addition to himself, he is also obliged to pay zakat for all those who are in charge, including children and parents.

Based on the hadith, the amount of zakat that must be paid is 1 sha '(1 sha' = 4 mud, 1 mud = 675 grams) or equivalent to 3.5 liters / 2.7 kilograms of staple food. The type of zakat is customized based on the type of staple food consumed daily can be rice, wheat, flour or dates.

Zakat fitrah must be paid in the month of Ramadan at the latest before the completion of the implementation of Eid prayers. Zakat issued outside the specified time is not included in zakat fitr but is only considered as regular alms. As for those who are entitled to receive zakat are the poor, the poor, amil (zakat committee), people who have just converted to Islam, and others.
